Domestic Violence Education & Intervention

The HURT STOPS here!

Who We Are

The Africentric Personal Development Shop (APDS) is a center focused on behavioral healthcare. Domestic violence education and intervention is one part of our behavioral health work. Hurting others makes you a slave to your worst emotions. Free yourself. Free your loved ones. Heal now, so you can stop hurting the people you love. APDS is here to help you help yourself!

How APDS Helps

Our center treats domestic violence with studied and proven methods, including motivational interviewing and talk therapy. Our approach to treatment is:

How You Get Better

APDS gives our community the tools they need to succeed. Our center helps those who abuse their loved ones to do better. We help to:

  • Protect people being abused
  • Hold abusers accountable for their actions while also creating room for postive change.
  • Work to remove family cycles of violence passed down over generations.
  • Understand the risk and harm of domestic violence.
  • Identify controlling behaviors that can lead to violence.
  • Find positive ways to manage anger and conflict.
  • Put a plan in place for abusers and those they abused to move forward.
  • Improve quality of life with safe, violence-free homes.
  • Get tools to have healthy, non-controlling, and equal relationships.

Domestic Violence Education and Intervention Programs

APDS offers programs that teach people about domestic violence and show people how to stop this violence. Part of our program is to find out your level of risk for being violent with loved ones. Measuring what level, you are at is called a risk assessment

  • Level “A/A+” is a low risk level that offers a more intimate approach to address patterns of abuse.
  • Level “B” is a moderate risk that needs some help to stop patterns of abuse.
  • Level “C” is a high risk that needs much help right away to avoid serious issues.

APDS offers domestic violence education and intervention programs called APDS Freedom From Abusive Relationships, or “AFAR” for short. AFAR gives domestic violence education and assistance for men & women causing harm. Here are what the programs look like side-by-side.
