Millicent ‘Mama Kim’ Dixon Scholarship Fund

MAMA-KIM-2-WEBIn 1999 Millicent “Mama Kim” Dixon, a retired nurse and former Co-Chair of the APDS Council of Elders, established the APDS Afrikan/Afrikan American Scholarship Fund to support APDS (Africentric Personal Development Shop, Inc.) in its effort to provide scholarship funds to students aspiring to graduate from post secondary learning institutions.

Girl-In-Library-400pxOur dearly beloved ‘Mama Kim’ “passed on” in January 2010 and the APDS Board of Trustees, in honor of Mama Kim, changed the name of the fund to the APDS Millicent ‘Mama Kim’ Dixon Scholarship Fund. The funds are “housed” and invested by the preeminent The Columbus Foundation of Columbus, Ohio.

Revised Requirements for Eligibility (effective June 7, 2007)

APDS Board of Trustees will grant, per year, a $1,000 scholarship to a qualified female student and a $1,000 scholarship to a qualified male student.

Scholarship recipients shall meet the following four minimum qualifications:

  • Recipient have at least a 3.0 accumulative grade point average
  • Must be 17 to 22 years old
  • Accepted to a post secondary school
  • Have documented experience in community service
